A Christmas collectible is a wonderful way to decorate for the season and create traditions that can be passed down. They also make great gifts for family members.

Christmas collectibles are unique decorative items celebrating the season that are usually in limited release. These items can be expensive, but they will remain in the family forever.

Christmas villages are a series of miniature porcelain buildings that make up an old fashioned village decorated for Christmas. The villages usually light up but the really interesting ones have some sort of movement like people dancing inside or skating on a pond. The buildings are typically sold separately and can be pricey so most people buy just one or two a year until they have a entire collection.

Traditional Christmas villages by Thomas Kinkade are well known holiday collectibles, but there are even more whimsical ones, such as the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas Village Collection. Stores such as Lemax, Department 56 and CollectiblesToday all sell Christmas and snow villages. They are great for displaying on a coffee table.

Christmas Ornaments Collectibles

Various companies will release an annual keepsake Christmas ornament.Swarovski Crystal releases several each year made of clear faceted crystal, as does Waterford. These ornaments are usually available at high end department stores. If a serious collector, Jay Strongwater has a variety of beautiful, very colorful hand painted ornaments, usually set with Swarovski crystals. A single ornament can cost upwards of $125.

Christmas Trains

Christmas trains are a popular holiday collectible. These are automatic small scale trains on a track decorated in a Christmas theme, which most people use around the base of the Christmas tree. Kids, in particular, love having these as part of the holiday decorations. Frontgate has a Christmas train that has five train cars with steam sound and headlights on a 14 feet oval track.

Collectible Nativity Scenes

Nativity scenes are probably the most sought after Christmas collectible. Creches can be quite ornate, made of china or porcelain with gold trim. Thomas Kinkade has a Nativity Garland Collection that consists of six sets of handcrafted and hand painted sculptures accented with 22K gold. Each set lights up and is beautiful for displaying on a fireplace mantel or sideboard.

Snow Babies

Snow babies are a series of white porcelain statues of angelic looking toddlers. They are available for all themes but there are about 20 specially for Christmas and certain styles eventually get retired. Some Christmas snowbabies favorites include A Very Special Story Nativity and You’re the Only (Snow) Man For Me. These are great collectibles for children (not to play with, just to display).

Christmas Figurines

Christmas collectible figurines can be any kind of porcelain or china structure that celebrates the season such as Santa Claus, a Christmas tree, or angels. All of the major china and crystal manufacturers release them a couple of months prior to Christmas. A really beautiful holiday figurine is the Gingerbread Memories House by Lenox. This ivory gingerbread house with pink, red and green accents is made from hand painted china rimed in 24 karat gold. The candies on the house can even be personalized with the names of family members making it a great gift idea.

Snow Globes

Snow globes are great collectibles and Christmas décor items. Disney makes one that is quite impressive. Christmas collectibles such as Santa figurines, Christmas villages, and keepsake ornaments are rare items that will accentuate any holiday decor and create lasting memories for family.
